ZELIENOPLE — A cabaret show with three New York City performances under
its belt and featuring 1999 Seneca Valley High School alumnus Nathan
Brewer is coming to town.
"White Girls," a 50-minute mix of music and family friendly
storytelling, will be performed at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m.
on Sunday at Strobel Hall in St. Paul Lutheran Church, 215 N. Main St.
The show stars Paula and Tessa White, two actresses from Memphis, Tenn.
Brewer plays songs on the piano while the White sisters sing and tell
humorous stories about growing up.
They met and created the stories after Brewer graduated in 2003 from the
Westminster Choir College in Princeton, N.J. He is now the founder and
artistic director of the Actors Company of the Westminster Conservatory.
"The girls and I used to sing at my piano when they would come over
for fun. The music we created together seemed like it needed to be
performed," Brewer said.
None of the show's songs are original, but Brewer arranged most of the
music.
He said the show has been touring the country for a year. It has been
performed in Philadelphia; Princeton; Bisbee, Ariz.; Wilson, N.C.; and
three times in New York City.
Brewer was last here to direct "Seussical," Seneca Valley
High School's recent spring musical.
"I grew up performing in Zelienople, and my parents are still very
active in the music and theater of the community," Brewer said.
His father, the Rev. William Brewer, pastor at St. Paul, said,
"(Nathan) called me up about a month ago, and said 'Dad, we've
performed all around the country, everywhere but Zelienople.'"
Tickets for the show cost $10 for adults and $5 for students. All tickets
are bought at the door.
Proceeds from the show will go toward St. Paul's organ fund and the Strand
Theater Initiative. |
