A Dog looks to discover his purpose in
life over the course of several lifetimes and owners.
The movie is based on the critically acclaimed bestseller of the
same name by
W. Bruce Cameron.
Unlike many Hollywood movies, this one has the author of the
novel, W. Bruce Cameron, (along with his wife Cathryn Michon)
among the screenwriters. Directed by Oscar nominee Lass
Hallstrom (A Dog’s Life)
the movie is produced by Gavin Polone (Zombieland).
The all-star cast includes Dennis Quaid (The
Right Stuff), Britt Robertson (Tomorrowland),
John Ortiz (Silver Linings
Playbook), and Peggy Lipton (Crash).
Josh Gad (Frozen) narrates
the movie from the point of view of a dog who tells the story of
how he continues to reincarnate, coming back each time as a dog,
always remembering his past dog lives and his people, and always
wondering, what is my purpose?
Prior to theatrical release, controversy arose when
behind-the-scenes footage surfaced and appeared to show a
distressed dog being forcibly submerged into turbulent pool
water during filming. As a result of the leaked footage, the
filmmakers chose to cancel the U.S. premiere. But according to
the film reference web site, IMDB.com, it was announced on
February 4th, 2017 by the American Humane Association that the
footage was indeed fake.
