Ella & Basie!
Fri - Sun, January 27 - 29, 2017
Original Music Revue Saluting a Groundbreaking Collaboration

In 1963, Ella Fitzgerald and The Count Basie Orchestra were already titans in jazz and blues.  While they worked together on the 1957 album One O'Clock Jump, it was Ella & Basie!, with arrangements by a young Quincy Jones, that became one of the most revered projects of the industry.

This original concert tells the story of this iconic collaboration; of these two legends and a young protoge, leading up to the 1963 release, of course the album itself, and a hint of what was stil to come.

The Strand is thrilled to announce that REMA WEBB, currently starring ON Broadway in The Color Purple, will take a break from that show to headline Ella & Basie!  Rema also starred on Broadway in The Lion King, and was an original cast member in The Book of Mormon.   It is a privilege to welcome someone of Rema's incredible talent and credentials to the intimate setting of The Strand.

Rema will be joined by Strand Fan-Favorite and Pittsburgh CLO star, BILLY MASON, who is just wrapping up an extended run in The Toxic Avenger at The Cabaret at Theater Square. Billy also played the pivotal role of Judas in The Strand's Sell Out production of Jesus Christ Superstar.

Ella & Basie! is the next installment of The Strand's signature Broadway On Main subscriptions series.  Enjoy this show, plus Groucho: A Life in Revue to enjoy great savings and other benefits like no-hassle date and/or seat changes and first-alert status for new shows before they're announced to the general public.  Plus, Subscribers get a BONUS offer for the one-man play, The Chief.  Become a 2-Show Broadway On Main Subscriber today!
