The Music of Marvin Hamlisch

Jan 26 & 27 8pm and Jan 28 2pm

Enjoy the Music of This Iconic Composer & Conductor Who Spent HIs Final Decades with The Pittsburgh Pops

As a composer, Hamlisch won virtually every major award in existence: three Oscars, four Grammys, four Emmys, a Tony, three Golden Globes, and the Pulitzer Prize (for A Chorus Line). Only Marvin Hamlisch and Richard Rodgers have won a "PEGOT" (Pulitzer, Emmy, Grammy, Oscar & Tony).

For Broadway, he wrote the music for his groundbreaking show, A Chorus Line, as well as They're Playing Our Song, The Goodbye Girl and Sweet Smell of Success.  He was the composer of more than forty motion picture scores including his Oscar-winning score and song for The Way We Were and his adaptation of Scott Joplin's music for The Sting, for which he received a third Oscar. His prolific output of scores for films include compositions and/or musical adaptations for Sophie's Choice, Ordinary People, Ice Castles, and so many others.

Of course, Pittsburghers knew him as the Principal Conductor of The Pittsburgh Pops from 1995 until his untimely passing in 2012. This original concert will be a heartfelt homage to a music pioneer whose influence will never truly fade.
