TMG Big Band Concert
Sunday ONLY!  July 28
Enjoy a Nostalgic Trip Back to the Days When Swing was King!

This program is a production of TMG Big Band and is responsible for its quality and content.

Sounds of the Big Bands featuring the TMG Big Band and vocalist Andrew Karns is an exciting nostalgic musical trip back to the days when swing music was at the top of the charts. It inspired you, uplifted you, and made you dance in the aisles. This show touches on many of the amazing artists and groups that defined the era in a way that will have you tapping your toes and lifting you up out of your seats just the way it did to audiences and fans back then. From love songs that evoke sweet romance to updated standards, the band and Andrew will engage you, make you laugh, have you humming and leave you smiling.

Guest vocalist ANDREW KARNS is a songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist based in western Pennsylvania. Coming from a musical family, Andrew has been singing and playing saxophone since childhood, with a particular interest in his father’s big band record collection. As a kid, he would record jazz LP’s and radio shows to cassette, playing along to every tune on his saxophone. Artists like Nat King Cole, The Count Basie Orchestra, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, David Sanborn, Stan Getz, and Michael Brecker have influenced his artistic style. Among his current activities, Andrew produces a weekly music radio program, and is directing a church choir recording project. He is also a private saxophone instructor at May’s Music.

The TMG Big Band has been the region’s premier big band swing music group since 2003. Having performed with many noted musicians such as Karolina Strassmayer, Ralph Lalama, Clarence Banks, Wayne Bergeron, Sarah Morrow, and Mike Williams, as well as esteemed vocalists Dave Boyer, Etta Cox and Adam Brock, the ensemble has played from Ohio to West Virginia, to Eastern PA. Members are comprised of music educators and other professionals that bring their collective talents together to play the best music of the jazz band genre. From the early swing bands of the 1930’s and the decades of bands to follow to today’s latest exciting groups, the music performed by the TMG Big Band reflects the best of the best. From Glenn Miller and Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Buddy Rich, to Doc Severinson and even some of their very own arrangements, the group plays it all and has fun doing it!
